Through The Eye Of The Mountain
The hike leading to the Double O Arch in the Arches National Park has to be one of the most fun I've done: a little steep, not too long but all very fun with each section being different to the previous one.
The real fun however resides in the fact that you get to hike on fins, a thin (no pun intended) vertical slice of rock, soon realising you are standing next to a hair-raising cliff. The view on the park and the satisfaction of reaching Double O Arch is however worth every minute and drop of sweat.
When you actually reach the Double O Arch, the first relief is to be able to take some rest in the shade. Then you can enjoy the beautiful light reflect on the sandstone and illuminate the rest of the arch, giving it a red glow which beautifully stands out in the blue sky of a hot afternoon. The final wow comes when you go through the lower opening to discover the Double O Arch from the other side.
